About the Program

The Youth Ambassador Service program was established in 2004 to create opportunities for young people to represent their schools and communities as education liaisons.

Purpose of the program

  1. provide opportunities for youth to serve their community as advocates for positive change

  2. educate young people on the important role of citizens in a diverse, democratic society

  3. engage youth in the process of negotiation and compromise

  4. facilitate youth development of exemplary leadership skills and moral character

  5. encourage youth to consider careers in public service


Activities

Youth Ambassadors meet with students, parents, teachers, and government officials, to identify and address the key issues and challenges faced by youth of their community.  They also organize and participate in youth summits and town hall meetings in their local community to provide a positive public forum for youth interaction and community involvement.


Application & Selection Process

Applicants must be current or former program participants of programs sponsored by the Young Center.  Youth Ambassadors are selected based on leadership abilities, personal character, academic achievement, community service.  Students are nominated by members of our staff and approved by our select Board of Governors.
